Artist Bio
A native of the Sierras of California, raised partly there and partly in the forests and on the coasts of Washington, Sonja has played the violin since she was nine years old in public school, youth symphony orchestras, university chamber orchestras, concert bands, jazz bands, folk bands, old-time, and (contra) dance bands. Over the past several years, she has played for many weddings and other private events. Since she is able to pick up tunes and harmonies “on the spot,” and loves improvisation, she has been a frequently requested backing violinist for live performances and recordings. She also teaches private violin and piano lessons. |
Sonja recently came home to the Catholic Church in the Spring of 2021 and was encouraged, when she learned to pray the rosary, to return to midwest (from Arizona) to be near her children and granddaughter, which she did the following summer. Sonja gratefully continues to discover the many precious “tools for battle” that Our Lady has provided for us in the Church to help us on the road to holiness.
Sonja is adjusting to life in Omaha and is currently teaching Latin, Spanish, and English Literature and Writing at Chesterton Classical Academy in Omaha. She also has a few violin students. She has two beautiful children, Joseph, 31, who lives in Council Bluffs, and Hannah, 27, who lives in Des Moines. She has one very smart and dear granddaughter, Ivy Rose, who is seven. She loves to go to daily mass, read, take daily walks, play music, sew, draw, and grow her own food and flowers.
