Melissa Zach

Overflow by Melissa | Painting, Drawing, Lettering, Digital Art
"I am often struck by the beauty of God’s love and His ways as revealed through personal prayer, Scripture, and the Sacraments. I am often moved to attempt to articulate this beauty through a combination of words and images, to try to present these Truths in a way that makes them more accessible to all. I hope that my art can lead someone to look at a familiar aspect of Scripture or Tradition and see it in a new light. I hope that my work can help others enter more deeply into the mysteries of our faith. Or, at the very least, that I can help provide a meaningful and edifying card for someone (because I also love to send and receive mail)!"

Artist Bio
Art has been an outlet and a hobby for Melissa for most of her life, sometimes in the form of doodles and sketches, other times as drawings and paintings. Books, art, and long runs fed her contemplative spirit and led her into a deeper relationship with the Lord. Her time at the Newman Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2006-2010 drew her deeply in love with Jesus Christ and the Church. After earning a degree in Biochemistry, she chose to “drop the nets” and follow the Lord’s call to stay home with her children full time. As she has embraced wholeheartedly her current role and Vocation as wife and mother, she has been able to continue to create. From 2010-2011, she took Graphic Design classes at Metro Community College in Omaha. Since then, she has taken a handful of calligraphy, watercolor, drawing, and painting classes online and in local workshops.
She has continued to learn and hone her skills through personal projects, commissions, and designing invitations for family parties. In 2017, Melissa launched her Etsy shop and website. Her love of God and of her family is apparent in much of her artwork. Melissa currently reads, creates, and home-educates in Omaha, Nebraska with her husband and five children.

Favorite/Patron Saint
My patron saint is St. Joan of Arc, whom I have always admired for her courage and strength (Philippians 4:13). St. Teresa of Calcutta and St. Therese of Lisieux have also been favorites of mine for some time, inspiring me to see Jesus in each person I encounter and to do small things with great love. My newest saint friend is St. Francis de Sales, through whose writing I have been encouraged to live a devout life but also to be gentle with myself when I fall short.
