Favorite/Patron Saint
Bl. Stanley Rother was a Midwestern native martyred in Guatemala in 1981. He loved farming but struggled with Latin, which nearly cost him the chance to be ordained. Yet, later as a missionary he was able to translate the New Testament into the native dialect and is farming skills were instrumental in bettering the lives of his flock in Guatemala.

I believe Bl. Stanley’s life and death are a testament to the Holy Spirit’s special role in forming the Christian in the modern era. We must prepare for the future, but we never know what future God has in Mind. God does not work in spite of our shortcomings, but through them. In the end, who we are more than what we know readies us to be tools in God’s Hands. I sang at Bl. Stanley’s Beatification Mass in 2017 in Oklahoma City. It was the spiritual experience of a lifetime.
